a beloved is a tormentor who brings untold miseries to the lover. This is also why the beloved’s eye brows have been compared with swords and the eye lashes with arrows. In modern poetry, however, these metaphors have gone stale and a tormentor has acquired many more identities that have a socio-political implication.
