One of the most prominent contemporary ghazal poets in India.

Prominent poet and writer, well-known for his annotations of Mirza Ghalib, also published a critical book on poetry called Ganjina-e-Tahqeeq.

Famous for his ghazal "Ai jazba-e-dil gar main chahun har cheez muqaabil aa jaye," sung by many singers.

Begum Akhtar, also known as Mallika-e-Ghazal, was an eminent multi-genre Hindustani classical music singer. She was posthumously honored with the Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan.
