Lyallpur Cotton Mill used to have a national mushaira. In 1958, under the direction of Jigar Moradabadi, a Mushaira took place. The ground for the couplets was based on this couplet: 'Sajda-gaah-e-aashiq par naqsh-e-paa hotaa nahii.n'. After the turns of many poets Saghar Siddiqi recited this Ghazal, listening to which Jigar Moradabadi got up in ecstacy and the audience unceasingly applauded. When Jigar Sahib's turn came he accounced that there is no need for his Ghazal to be recited, for the best that the Mushaira had to offer was already performed by Saghar, he left the stage by tearing off the paper on which his Ghazal was written.
एक वा'दा है किसी का जो वफ़ा होता नहीं
वर्ना इन तारों भरी रातों में क्या होता नहीं
जी में आता है उलट दें उन के चेहरे से नक़ाब
हौसला करते हैं लेकिन हौसला होता नहीं
शम्अ जिस की आबरू पर जान दे दे झूम कर
वो पतिंगा जल तो जाता है फ़ना होता नहीं
अब तो मुद्दत से रह-ओ-रस्म-ए-नज़ारा बंद है
अब तो उन का तूर पर भी सामना होता नहीं
हर शनावर को नहीं मिलता तलातुम से ख़िराज
हर सफ़ीने का मुहाफ़िज़ नाख़ुदा होता नहीं
हर भिकारी पा नहीं सकता मक़ाम-ए-ख़्वाजगी
हर कस-ओ-ना-कस को तेरा ग़म अता होता नहीं
हाए ये बेगानगी अपनी नहीं मुझ को ख़बर
हाए ये आलम कि तू दिल से जुदा होता नहीं
बारहा देखा है 'साग़र' रहगुज़ार-ए-इश्क़ में
कारवाँ के साथ अक्सर रहनुमा होता नहीं
