vo jo tumhāre haath se aa kar nikal gayā
ham bhī qatīl haiñ usī ḳhāna-ḳharāb ke
phūloñ kī sej par zarā ārām kyā kiyā
us gul-badan pe naqsh uTh aa.e gulāb ke
so.e to dil meñ ek jahāñ jāgne lagā
jaage to apnī aañkh meñ jaale the ḳhvāb ke
bas tishnagī kī aañkh se dekhā karo unheñ
dariyā ravāñ-davāñ haiñ chamakte sarāb ke
okāḌa itnī duur na hotā to ek din
bhar laate saañs saañs meñ gul āftāb ke
kis tarah jam.a kījiye ab apne aap ko
kāġhaz bikhar rahe haiñ purānī kitāb ke
aashiq the shahr mein jo purane sharab ke
hain un ke dil mein waswase ab ehtisab ke
wo jo tumhaare hath se aa kar nikal gaya

phulon ki sej par zara aaram kya kiya
us gul-badan pe naqsh uTh aae gulab ke
soe to dil mein ek jahan jagne laga
jage to apni aankh mein jale the KHwab ke
bas tishnagi ki aankh se dekha karo unhen
dariya rawan-dawan hain chamakte sarab ke
okaDa itni dur na hota to ek din
bhar late sans sans mein gul aaftab ke
kis tarah jama kijiye ab apne aap ko
kaghaz bikhar rahe hain purani kitab ke
