badan se rishta-e-jaan motabar na tha mera
badan se rishta-e-jāñ mo'tabar na thā merā
maiñ jis meñ rahtā thā shāyad vo ghar na thā merā
qarīb hī se vo guzrā magar ḳhabar na huī
dil is tarah to kabhī be-ḳhabar na thā merā
maiñ misl-e-sabza-e-begāna jis chaman meñ rahā
vahāñ ke gul na the mere samar na thā merā
na raushnī na harārat hī de sakā mujh ko
parā.ī aag meñ koī sharar na thā merā
zamīñ ko rū-kash-e-aflāk kar diyā jis ne
hunar thā kis kā agar vo hunar na thā merā
kuchh aur thā mirī tashkīl o irtiqā kā sabab
madār sirf havāoñ pe gar na thā merā
jo dhuup de gayā mujh ko vo merā sūraj thā
jo chhāñv de na sakā vo shajar na thā merā
nahīñ ki mujh se mire dil ne bevafā.ī kī
lahū se rabt hī kuchh mo'tabar na thā merā
pahuñch ke jo sar-e-manzil bichhaḌ gayā mujh se
vo ham-safar thā magar ham-nazar na thā merā
ik aane vaale kā maiñ muntazir to thā 'akbar'
har aane vaalā magar muntazir na thā merā
badan se rishta-e-jaan mo'tabar na tha mera
main jis mein rahta tha shayad wo ghar na tha mera
qarib hi se wo guzra magar KHabar na hui
dil is tarah to kabhi be-KHabar na tha mera
main misl-e-sabza-e-begana jis chaman mein raha
wahan ke gul na the mere samar na tha mera
na raushni na hararat hi de saka mujh ko
parai aag mein koi sharar na tha mera
zamin ko ru-kash-e-aflak kar diya jis ne
hunar tha kis ka agar wo hunar na tha mera
kuchh aur tha meri tashkil o irtiqa ka sabab
madar sirf hawaon pe gar na tha mera
jo dhup de gaya mujh ko wo mera suraj tha
jo chhanw de na saka wo shajar na tha mera
nahin ki mujh se mere dil ne bewafai ki
lahu se rabt hi kuchh mo'tabar na tha mera
pahunch ke jo sar-e-manzil bichhaD gaya mujh se
wo ham-safar tha magar ham-nazar na tha mera
ek aane wale ka main muntazir to tha 'akbar'
har aane wala magar muntazir na tha mera
