About ten or fifteen years ago, on the last night of the holy month of Ramadan, at ten o'clock in the night, Radio Pakistan suddenly announced that the sighting of the crescent has taken place. Tomorrow is Eid. A few minutes later, preachers from various Mosques announced from their loudspeakers that this news is wrong. In this way, some families fasted and some celebrated Eid.
रेडियो ने दस बजे शब के ख़बर दी ईद की
आलिमों ने रात भर इस न्यूज़ की तरदीद की
रेडियो कहता था सुन लो कल हमारी ईद है
और आलिम कहते थे ये ग़ैर-शरई ईद है
दो धड़ों में बट गए थे मुल्क के सारे अवाम
उस तरफ़ सब मुक़तदी थे इस तरफ़ सारे इमाम
बेटा कहता था कि कल शैतान रोज़ा रक्खेगा
बाप बोला तेरा अब्बा जान रोज़ा रक्खेगा
बेटा कहता था कि मैं सरकारी अफ़सर हूँ जनाब
रोज़ा रक्खूँगा तो मुझ से माँगा जाएगा जवाब
बाप कहता था कि फिर यूँ बाम पर ईमाँ के चढ़
रोज़ा भी रख और रोज़े में नमाज़-ए-ईद पढ़
आज कितना फ़र्क़ फ़ुल स्टाप और कॉमे में था
बाप का रोज़ा था बेटा ईद के जामे में था
इख़्तिलाफ़ इस बात पर भी क़ौम में पाया गया
चाँद ख़ुद निकला था या जबरन निकलवाया गया
